Academic Planning · pattern E, Dates

When you actually graduate, at this rate.

Works out how many terms remain at your current credit load and what that means in calendar terms — including the cost, in time and money, of dropping to a lighter load.

Inputs

The formula used

Terms remaining = (credits required − credits completed) ÷ credits per term

Round up: a partial term is a term. Summer sessions and co-op placements change the count, and prerequisite chains can make a term unavoidable even when the credit arithmetic says otherwise.

Prerequisite chains and courses that run only once a year routinely add a term that credit arithmetic cannot see. Confirm the sequence with an adviser before committing to a graduation date.

The cost of a lighter load, stated in money.

Dropping from fifteen credits a term to twelve looks like a small change and often adds a full extra year: more terms of tuition and fees, a later start to earning, and in some cases a scholarship that expires. Seeing the delay priced in the panel above is usually more persuasive than being told to take a heavier load, and it makes the alternative — a summer session — easy to compare.

Questions about graduation date

Can summer courses speed this up?
Often yes, and a summer term is usually the cheapest way to recover a lost semester. Check that the specific courses you need actually run and that they count toward your requirements.
What if a required course is offered once a year?
Then it can set your graduation date on its own. Ask early which of your remaining requirements are annual and plan the sequence around them.
Does an internship term delay graduation?
Sometimes, and it is frequently worth it — a co-op or placement that carries credit may not delay anything. Check whether yours does before assuming a trade-off exists.

A calculator handles the arithmetic. It cannot teach you the method.

If the number is not the part you are stuck on, that is what the service is for — a specialist who explains the working, not just the answer.

Grade point values, rounding rules and academic standing thresholds are set by your institution and vary widely. Nothing here is an official record of your standing.
