Code of ethics

Eight articles, each with a consequence rather than a sentiment.

Most codes of ethics are a list of adjectives. This one is written as rules with penalties, because a rule nobody can breach is not a rule — and 4 of the eight constrain the company rather than the people who work here.

How this code is constructed
01Every article has a consequenceif breaking a rule costs nobody anything, it is not in this document.
02Half of it binds the companyfour articles constrain us rather than our staff — those are the ones worth reading.
03No seniority exemptionthe people on the leadership page sign the same document, and Article 04 exists because of them.
04Amendments are dated and never retroactivethe version in force when your order was approved governs that order for its life.

The eight articles.

Each states the rule, the terms that follow from it, and what happens when it is broken.

Reporting a breach of this code.

Anyone can report — a client, a specialist, a member of staff, or someone outside the business entirely. You do not need to identify which article you think was broken, and you will not be asked to justify raising it.

Contact addresses
Step 1Write to the managing editor at the address on the legal hub. One paragraph is enough; you do not need to cite an article number.
Step 2You get an acknowledgement within one working day from a named person, not an autoresponder.
Step 3The report is investigated by someone with no involvement in the matter. Where that is impossible internally, we say so and use outside counsel.
Step 4You are told the outcome and what changed. Where a client was affected, they are told independently of whether they asked.
Step 5Where the breach was a false or unsupported claim, the correction is published on the page it appeared on.

Where this code sits against everything else.

In descending order of force. Where two documents disagree, the one higher up wins — and this code is not a contract with you.

01 Terms of service

the contract. Governs everything, and wins any conflict

02 Privacy and confidentiality policies

what happens to your data and who can see it

03 Plagiarism and AI usage policies

what we guarantee about the work itself

04 This code of ethics

how the people here must behave. Binding internally, not a client contract

05 Mission and values

statements of intent. Read them as intent, not as promise

4 of these eight articles bind us, not our staff.

Those are the ones worth reading — publishing figures that embarrass us, keeping refusals outside management discretion, and saying only what a mechanism supports.
