Attendance % = classes attended ÷ classes held × 100

Attendance rules are enforced more mechanically than most rules.

Where a minimum exists it is usually applied by a system rather than a person: below the threshold, you are barred from the assessment or the mark is withheld, and the appeal runs on documented mitigation rather than on how well you were doing. Because the denominator grows every week, the number of classes you can still miss shrinks even when your percentage holds steady.

Questions about attendance

Do medical absences count as attended?: Only if your institution records authorised absence separately, and only when the documentation was filed within their window — often a matter of days. Chasing it after the fact rarely works.
Is 75% a universal rule?: No. It is common in Indian universities and in professionally accredited programmes; many others have no numeric rule at all, or apply one only to seminars and labs. Your handbook is authoritative.
Why does the departmental figure differ from mine?: Registers are taken per session, and cancelled classes, double sessions and rescheduled labs all change the denominator. Ask for the register printout rather than arguing from your own count.
