Gross to net, deduction by deduction.

List each deduction against your gross monthly salary to see the total taken and what actually arrives — the figure a budget has to be built on.

Inputs

The formula used

net pay = gross − Σ deductions

Enter each deduction as a monthly amount. Percentage-based deductions must be converted to amounts first, since bands and thresholds vary by country.

The gap between gross and net is larger than people expect.

A quarter to a third of gross pay commonly disappears into tax, social contributions, pension and loan repayments, and job offers are quoted gross. Working out the net figure before accepting or before signing a tenancy is the difference between a budget that works and one that fails in month two.

Questions about salary

Is a pension contribution a loss?
No — it is deferred pay, usually with employer contributions and tax relief attached. It reduces net pay now and is rarely worth opting out of.
Why does my first payslip look different?
Cumulative tax calculations, a partial month, and starting-year allowances all distort the first one or two payslips. Check the third before concluding anything.
How do I check a deduction is right?
Against your tax code and the current bands published by your tax authority. Errors happen, particularly after a job change.

A calculator handles the arithmetic. It cannot teach you the method.

If the number is not the part you are stuck on, that is what the service is for — a specialist who explains the working, not just the answer.

These are coursework tools. Nothing here is financial advice, no figure accounts for tax rules in your jurisdiction, and no result should be relied on for a real borrowing or investment decision.
